Confd had been used as a convenience layer to reconfigure the tools based on environment variable based profiles. With confd it was possible configure arbitrary files using a templating mechanism.

Since confd is no longer maintained and because rendering configuration files at runtime is against the best practice of immutable container execution, mounting configuration files is the recommended approach in case custom configuration files are required.
