3.3.13.4 Publication Settings

Validation within publication workflows may be configured within a Struct named publication. Available configuration options are described below.

Limit Extension Of Content Items

The set of content items in the publication workflow window is extended automatically. Content items that are referenced by the current content items are followed recursively and are included in the following cases:

  • A referenced content item has never been published, yet.

These content items must be included in the publication to prevent dead links. The maximum depth for following these references recursively can be controlled with the setting publication.maxDepthToCompleteChangeSet.

This limit applies only to the set of content items shown in the Studio. During the actual publication all references of this type are followed (up to a fixed hard limit). There is one difference, though: The content items that are shown in Studio are also automatically checked in and approved if necessary, when starting the workflow. This does not happen in the actual publication where the latest approved version would be used instead. If no such version exists, the publication will fail.

If there are more referenced content items that are not shown due to this limit, a warning is displayed indicating that the shown set of content items is incomplete.

  • A referenced content item has already been published in the past has been updated since then.

These content items are only included if the checkbox Include updated referenced content is enabled. The maximum depth for following these references recursively can be controlled with the setting publication.maxUpdatedLinksDepthToCompleteChangeSet.

This type of references is only considered in the Studio and not in the actual publication workflow. That means, if content items are not included here, because either the depth limit is reached or the validation is stopped, these content items will not be included in the publication.

Like the other content items visible in the Studio, they will also automatically get checked in and approved if necessary, when starting the workflow.

If there are more referenced content items that are not included due to this limit, a warning is displayed. You can still start the publication workflow. Note that the actual amount of included referenced content items might also be limited by the value of publication.maxDepthToCompleteChangeSet. Without going into details, it limits the overall evaluation while publication.maxUpdatedLinksDepthToCompleteChangeSet is applied at lower levels.
